I was seeing the Physical Therapist this week and I was about to do that electrical stimulation on my hip. I remembered to ask the Physical Therapist's assistant about a piece of stitching that was coming out of the incision point on my hip. She said she would go get some tweezers and pull it out if I'd like her too. I felt like such a baby and I almost said no but I felt brave for just 2 seconds and told her we'd better do it now or never. It turns out she didn't pull it she just trimmed it down a little.
I read a story in the news about an incredible stunt-woman. She was "fearless". Or so she thought. She thought that by suppressing her fear she would be more successful. But by suppressing her fear she, over time, developed some medical conditions. She somehow traced it back to suppressing her fear and wrote a book called, "The Art of Fear:Why conquering fear wont work and what to do instead." She says,"It's not fear that causes problems but misguided reactions to it." It's a an interesting idea and, I'm sure, it's a great read.
I'll end with one of my favorite definitions of courage from John Wayne. "Courage is being scared to death, but saddling up anyways." It's okay to have fear! But it shouldn't stop you from doing what needs to be done.
